A storage unit is a private, lockable space you rent at a storage site to keep your own belongings, sized by its floor area in square feet. You pack it, lock it and visit it yourself, whenever the site is open to customers. A unit you can walk into is sometimes called a walk-in unit, to set it apart from a smaller locker.
At Wigwam
Our indoor units are purpose-built rooms inside our buildings, behind access-controlled external doors. Every unit has its own alarm, which sets and unsets as you come and go, and our sites are watched by CCTV monitored around the clock by a professional monitoring company. At Chipping Norton, Shipston-on-Stour and Warminster we also have a limited number of drive-up units and outdoor containers.
On our October 2026 price lists, sizes run from spaces of 10 sq ft or less, handy for a few boxes, up to 450 sq ft at Reading. As a guide, here are the middle prices across our sites for every four weeks, before any offer:
| Size | Middle price every four weeks |
|---|---|
| 25 sq ft | £85 |
| 50 sq ft | £133 |
| 100 sq ft | £228 |
| 200 sq ft | £360 |

Choosing the right size
You pay for the whole unit, so the best value is the smallest size that comfortably fits what you’re storing. Start with a list of your furniture and a rough count of boxes, and measure anything big or tall, such as a sofa or wardrobe. Unit sizes are approximate, so if one piece has to fit exactly, send us its measurements and we’ll check before you book. A unit is for storing things, so it can’t be lived in or used as a workshop.
