A removals company is a business that moves your household goods from one address to another with its own crew and vehicle. Some firms also offer a packing service, or storage in their own warehouse, called removals storage. A man-and-van service is the smaller version: one vehicle and a driver who helps you load.
At Wigwam
Self storage means you move your things in yourself or with people you choose, and we make that easy. We can put you in touch with local, reliable removals and man-and-van firms we recommend, who can bring your things to us, unload them into your unit, or both. Just call or email us.
On the day, every site has free trolleys and free parking while you unload. Someone from your side needs to be there while the crew loads or unloads, because only you, and the people you choose, can open your unit. That can be you, or a friend, relative or colleague you’ve shared smart entry with before the day.
Our contents protection covers your belongings once they’re placed in storage. For the journey itself, the cover that counts is the removal firm’s insurance or your own home insurance, so check with them before moving day.
What to check before you book
GOV.UK’s home-buying guide suggests getting more than one quote, and checking:
- that the firm has insurance and your belongings are “covered throughout the move”;
- whether it belongs to a trade association such as the British Association of Removers;
- the small print, so any extra charges are explained up front.
It also notes that “Fridays and the first and last days of the month are often very busy”, so you may get better rates and availability on other days. It’s worth asking whether the crew will carry everything right into your unit, and what they charge if they have to wait.
