A packing service is paid help to pack your belongings for a move or for storage: someone else wraps, boxes and labels your things, so you don’t have to. It’s usually bought from a removals company as part of a move. GOV.UK’s home-buying guide puts it simply: “You can opt to pack yourself or have the removal firm do it for you.”
At Wigwam
We can help whichever way you’d like to pack: by putting you in touch with a firm, or by sending you everything you need to do it yourself. We don’t pack for customers ourselves.
- Help from a firm. Call or email us and we’ll put you in touch with local, reliable removals and man-and-van firms we recommend. If you’d like them to pack too, include that when you ask for a quote.
- Everything to do it yourself. Our online Box Shop sells double-walled boxes, moving kits, tape, packing paper, bubble wrap and furniture covers, delivered to your door. Our Burton, Bath, Chipping Norton and Dorking sites also sell packaging in store during office hours.
What to tell your packers
A packer boxing up a whole house won’t know which boxes are heading into storage, so tell them. A few things can’t go into a unit, mostly because of the risk of fire, fumes or pests spreading to other people’s belongings:
- anything flammable, such as paint, petrol, oil, solvents, gas bottles and aerosols;
- food and anything perishable;
- cash, deeds and securities.
Ask them to keep those boxes for the new home, and to label every storage box on more than one side with what’s inside and which room it came from. Our list of prohibited goods has the full detail.
When the crew unloads at your unit, someone from your side needs to be there to let them in: you, or a friend or relative you’ve shared access with.
Call us on 0800 2545585 for a recommendation, or visit the Box Shop.
