A 35 sq ft unit is the in-between size: more room than a 25 sq ft unit, which as a rough guide takes a spare room’s worth, but less than the 50 sq ft we’d suggest for a studio or small one-bed flat. If your list is a little too much for 25 sq ft and nowhere near a whole flat, 35 sq ft is the size to ask about.
How big is 35 square feet?
Thirty-five square feet is the floor area, about 3.3 square metres. That’s 40% more floor than a 25 sq ft unit, and a little over two-thirds of a 50 sq ft unit. You can stack upwards too, so the space above the floor counts as much as the floor itself.
How to tell if it’s your size
The easiest way to judge 35 sq ft is against the sizes either side of it. As a rough guide from our size advice:
- 25 sq ft holds a spare room’s worth: a single bed frame, a chest of drawers, 10 to 15 removal boxes and some seasonal things.
- 50 sq ft holds a studio or small one-bed flat with modest furniture: a sofa, a double bed and mattress, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a few small appliances and 20 to 30 boxes, packed well.
If your list sits between those two, 35 sq ft is worth a look, and it means you’re not paying for a 50 sq ft unit you won’t fill.
Getting the most into it
The right packing can be the difference between booking 35 sq ft and paying for 50:
- Take beds and tables apart, and tape the screws to the frame.
- Stand a mattress on its edge.
- Use sturdy boxes of a similar size, heavy ones at the bottom, so they stack straight.
- Keep the things you’ll want first near the door.
