We’re so sorry if this has happened to you. Call the police first, then call us on 0800 2545585, and we’ll help you through every step from there, including your insurance claim.
What to do straight away
- Call the police. Ring 999 if it’s happening now or anyone is in danger. Otherwise report it on 101 or online, and keep the crime reference number for your claim.
- Call us on 0800 2545585. Let us know what’s happened, and ask whether our CCTV or alarms picked anything up.
- Take photos before you move anything: the door, the lock, any damage and the spaces where things were.
- Keep the evidence, such as a cut lock or damaged items, until your insurer says you can throw it away.
- Make a list of what’s missing or damaged, with rough replacement costs and any receipts or photos that show what you had.
If the area has to be closed for a while, for safety or while the police do their work, call us to check when you can go back in.
How your site is protected
Our sites are watched around the clock by a professional CCTV monitoring company, with a secure perimeter and access control on the external doors. Every unit has its own lock and its own alarm, and if an alarm goes off while you’re not on site, our security team investigates.
Getting your belongings replaced
Everything stored with us has to be insured, either through our contents protection or through a policy of your own. That cover is what pays to replace what was taken or damaged.
- With our contents protection, call us and we’ll tell you where to send your claim in writing; we then notify our insurer promptly. Our cover includes theft involving forcible entry or exit, and claiming won’t affect the no-claims status on your home insurance.
- With your own insurance, contact your insurer directly. If they need our name and the site address, just ask.
Our guide to making a claim goes through it step by step.
When you’re ready to secure your unit again
If your lock was damaged, ask us what to use to secure your unit again. It’s also a good moment to check that your cover still matches the value of what you’ve got stored.
A break-in can be upsetting, even when nothing irreplaceable is lost. Victim Support offers free help to anyone affected by crime, whether or not you’ve reported it.
Whatever you need, call us on 0800 2545585 or email hello@wigwamstorage.co.uk, and we’ll take it one step at a time with you.
