When you can’t keep an eye on your belongings yourself, you want to know they’re protected. Our storage buildings have fire and smoke detection systems, our sites meet fire and safety regulations, and we keep out the things that start fires in the first place. On top of that, contents cover with fire included is part of every storage agreement, so your belongings are protected either way.
Stopping a fire before it starts
A big part of fire safety is making sure nothing that could start a fire comes through the door, so we’re firm about it, for every customer’s sake:
- no petrol, gas bottles, paint, solvents or other flammable liquids;
- no portable heaters;
- no power in the units, so nothing is ever left plugged in or charging;
- sensible limits on loose lithium batteries, such as power banks and spare e-bike batteries.
Every customer agrees to the same rules, so the unit next to yours is held to the same standard as your own. If you’re not sure about an item, ask us before moving day and we’ll tell you straight away. Our e-bike and battery guide and the list of items we can’t store have the details.
Detection and a watched site
Fire and smoke detection systems are fitted in our storage buildings. Our sites are also watched around the clock by a professional CCTV monitoring company, and every unit has its own alarm.
Your belongings are covered
Everything stored with us has to be insured, through our contents protection or your own policy. Our contents protection covers fire, lightning and explosion, so if the worst ever happened you could claim for what you’d lost. Our guide to how much cover you need helps you choose the right amount.
For papers you might need in a hurry, such as a will or deeds, a fireproof box at home or your solicitor’s safe is the best place, wherever the rest of your things are kept.
