I looked up three or four places near me online, and of those, Wigwam were much cheaper than the other options. In fact, the price difference was big enough that I wondered if they were something like garages or shipping containers (out in the open and with cold/damp conditions being a concern). They weren’t far from me so I decided to go there in-person and take a look.
They ended up being perfectly serviceable units inside secure buildings, with no atmospheric concerns. The manager was incredibly friendly, and she was happy to show me around, including showing me the inside of a couple of different sized units (so I could better visualise and decide how much space I’d need).
I booked a unit and started filling it that same day, and I plan to use it for at least a year. I view it as if I’m paying a bit more rent to get the equivalent of a loft/shed, and I personally think it’s well worth it (with Wigwam at least; the other places I looked into would have been significantly more expensive over the course of a year).
All of the locks and shutters are controlled via a phone app, which is convenient. There’s no fiddling around for keys or entering a code, which was necessary at a different storage place I used in the past. Being able to open the entry gates without getting out of the car is nice when the weather is bad.
My only real nitpick is that they only have one kind of trolley to load your belongings onto, and they’re not the greatest. The surface area is relatively small, and there’s no sides to prop things up. At a different storage place I used in the past, they had a different kind of trolley, which I much preferred. They had a larger base, and they had “walls” on the left and right sides. I was able to load more things onto them, and more quickly. That meant fewer trips back and forth, and less time trying to carefully balance things so nothing falls (which is particularly unpleasant when it’s raining and your belongings are getting wet). I hope Wigwam consider offering a similar kind of trolley at some point.
That said, given how much more expensive the other storage places I looked at were, I’m still incredibly happy I found and went with Wigwam.
